The afternoon started with a long but interesting experiment measuring the effect of varying thicknesses of lead to block the emissions from a radioactive source. We started with the greatest thickness present, which meant it was easier to run the experiment (as we could simply use a pencil to flick off a sheet of lead) plus as the experiment went on, the readings from the counter got higher. Enjoyed that. We are on a break at the moment but after the break we will be flushing the radioactive source through with a liquid cyanide compound. This is the sharp end of the day.
